Use paper filter in electronic air cleaner's housing?

My electronic air cleaner broke. Until I fix or replace it, can I just stick a paper filter in the electronic cleaner's housing? The paper filter isn't quite the right size on one end, so I was thinking I could just plug the gap with wood cut to size

That will work fine. Just use the biggest filter you can.

I have a Bryant furnace sitting on top of an electronic Honeywell air cleaner. Been in my house for a year and have been wanting to clean the filters but for the life of me cannot figure out how to remove the cover so I can remove the filters? I am attaching pictures of the air cleaner, some with the furnace cover removed.
